Dig a Pony

I always thought that Let It Be kind of sucked...for The Beatles, I mean. But I also never really listened to it that much. Perhaps it was all the facial hair that turned me off, but I've never been into it in the past million years that I've been a Beatles fan.

But then, I noticed that this song was fucking amazing.

So now I'm rethinking Let It Be a little bit...

Shit's About to Get Nautical

Guess what bitches. Shit is about to get Nautical. I'm quite excited, because dressing up as a sailor pin-up has always been one of my favorite looks. In fact, in my younger days, I imposed "Nautical Thursdays" on myself.

I found some items on Forever 21 that fit my theme for spring, but of course, I did not do a full internet scour (is that a word?) because I'm really supposed to be doing homework.

If you read this blog, sorry, I haven't had a lot of time to devote to this thing. I still really like it, but it's hard to balance relationships, schoolwork, finances, work, extra curriculars, and body mass index all at the same time. I'd like to be a well-rounded, organized person, but it does not come easily for me. Besides, my page views have really taken a nosedive lately. It seems that since I no longer have a lot of time to read other blogs and comment, no one has the time to read mine. It's funny how that works. The blogosphere is a selfish, selfish place my friends.

But this spring, I will be lifting up my anchor and returning to sea!

At least metaphorically.

But not really because I'll still be living here doing the same thing.

But at least the weather will be warmer, and thus the clothes cuter.

Pictures from the Past Month

I haven't uploaded any new pictures on my computer since before Christmas (that seems so long ago!) Here's just a few pictures from the past few weeks.

Attention everyone: make this. Oh, it was so good. It's from The Pioneer Woman Cooks, an incredible cooking blog with step by step instructions on how to make all kinds of delicious foods. Literally step by step, she seriously takes a picture of every ingredient as she adds it. I totally recommend it. I didn't think I would be able to cook shrimp, but apparently I can. Thanks Pioneer Woman, whoever you are!

In honor of MLK day (which I unfortunately do not have off like all of my fellow students), let me show you Christian Burgs, who won the 14th Annual Gardere MLK Jr. Oratory Competition. This fifth grader is way more articulate than I'll ever be...but it's inspiring, isn't it?

Enjoy your day off.

Get Down Tonight Baby

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

So...the year 2010 has come and my friends and I are finally turning 21. We all mysteriously have winter birthdays, so this is going to be one crazy quarter. Carly was the first...

Isn't her dress pretty? Too bad she'll never wear it again. Oh well, that's Forever 21 is for, right?

So this brings me to my next point...My party. Of course, it must have a theme. What party is a real party if it doesn't have a theme? My theme shall be:

DISCO BABY!!!!!

I am so goddamn excited about it. Don't even ask me what I'm going to wear yet...but I must tell you this: I am hoping to find some roller skates. I don't know how well that's going to fare in my mostly carpeted apartment, but we shall see...However this party is not until mid-February, so you will have to wait in anxious anticipation to see me in sequin hotpants and a halter top.

I've been looking for some good disco pictures are the Information Superhighway, but it hasn't been going well so far. I only know of three fierce females from the 70's: Bianca Jagger (isn't that the coolest name?), Donna Summer, and Farrah Fawcett. Regardless of my issues, here's some inspiration pictures to get you excited:

My girl crush, Julianne Moore, in Boogie Nights, which was the inspiration for this whole disco party. Clearly, I need to get some extra large hoop earrings. I'll have to take a lot of inspiration from her character in this movie since, alas, I am a ginger.

Donna Summer. Holy shit. How does your hair look that good? Please don't tell me it's a weave. How would I ever live up to that?

Let me tell you what Wikipedia says about this awesome picture of Bianca riding a horse: "A week after the opening [of Studio 54], Halston asked Rubell to open the nightclub on a Monday night (May 2, 1977, when it would have been closed) for Bianca Jagger's 32nd birthday party. Bianca entered on a white horse and the resulting publicity firmly established Studio 54 as the preferred nightclub for celebrities, including Michael Jackson, Rudolf Nureyev, Elton John, Truman Capote, Margaret Trudeau, John Travolta, Jackie Onassis, Elizabeth Taylor, Björn Borg, Gloria Swanson, Mae West, Farrah Fawcett, Telly Savalas, Salvador Dali, Olivia Newton-John, Cher, Muhammad Ali, Sylvester Stallone, Chuck Berry, Keith Richards, Lorna Luft, John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Divine, Rod Stewart, Alice Cooper, Suzanne Somers, Bette Davis, Al Pacino, Zsa Zsa and Eva Gabor, Bette Midler, Ann-Margret, Dolly Parton, Pelé, Hugh Hefner, Sophia Loren, Diane von Fürstenberg, Gloria Vanderbilt took her 10 year old son Anderson Cooper, John F. Kennedy Jr., Princess Grace, Prince Albert, Eartha Kitt, Vladimir Horowitz, Rev. Sun Myung Moon, Moshe Dayan, Fred Astaire, Christie Brinkley, Grace Jones, Diana Ross, Barry Diller, Betty Ford, Rudolf Nureyev, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lillian Carter, then-president Jimmy Carter's mother."

For serious? This was one huge cocaine-fueled party? The president's mom was there? I guess I never really realized how awesome the 70's were because I've been so obsessed with...every other recent decade. But now I'm excited to do some research and get down to the bottom of this 70's business.

P.S. Do not doubt my abilities to make my hair big. I can do it, and if you don't believe me, look at this post from my earlier days of blogging.

If you know of any 70's hotties that I should be aware of, please let me know. In the meantime, I will just be obsessing over how gorgeous Bianca Jagger is (was?)

It's 2010, Yins!

Have you ever heard anyone say "Yins"? It's Pennsylvanian for "Y'all", and where I come from, people say it all the time. It's quite baffling.

Anyhow, it's 2010, and I've decided to make some resolutions.

1. Listen to something other than The Beatles. Now, I must explain this. My love of the Beatles can only be described as spiritual. Religious, even. I listen to The Beatles like people go to church or pray. I couldn't really tell you why, I do this, but I love The Beatles like I've never loved any other music before. And although I have a feeling I'll never find a band whose discography appeals to me in the way The Beatles do, I hope to find a few songs here and there that I enjoy.

This is a video of Paul McCartney singing to me, by the way.

2. Be more positive. Apparently I complain...a lot. I also always complain about people who complain a lot. As a person who has no desire to be a hypocrite and tries to be honorable, I do not like to do the things that I complain about people doing. For instance, leaving dishes in the sink instead of putting them in the dishwasher. Because I always complain about this, I am under a tremendous amount of pressure to put my own dirty dishes in the dishwasher. I also complain about people who lead sedentary lifestyles, sleep in late, don't shower, wear sweatpants every day, have ugly tennis shoes, etc. I realize I am an extremely shallow and vain person, but I chalk that up to a natural personality defect. However, I could definitely stand to be more positive. I can mentally complain myself into a total funk. It's all too easy to do, especially when I wandering around in the tundra that is campus, face swelling up with hives because of my allergy to the cold. I think my boyfriend will break up with me if I don't stop complaining. So...MUST BE MORE POSITIVE.

I don't want to be a Debbie Downer anymore :(

3. Employ good hygiene before bed. I'm not afraid to admit this: I don't usually brush my teeth or wash my face before going to bed. It's pretty much out of laziness and having good skin. But I am now paranoid that my gums are receding and that I'm getting wrinkles...so I need to start doing those things.

4. Spend less time on the internet. SORRY. I love blogging. I really do. But last quarter I kind of got obsessed with the internet a little bit, and it was detrimental to my other love, which is reading. It took me like 5 months to read a 900 page book that I could have knocked out in a lot less time. And here is why I want to spend more time reading:

Oh ya. I'm cheating on my boyfriend with Jamie Fraser from the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. And if you have not read these books, I HIGHLY recommend them. OH MY GOD. You know how Twilight had a really disappointing lack of sex scenes? Well, this does not. Also, it doesn't have that annoying quality of having vampires and werewolves. And Bella is not in it. I really wish this would be made into a miniseries on HBO. I would seriously get HBO just to watch it.

And those are my resolutions. I'm not going to be all like "I need to lose weight!" because I was already on a diet and exercise plan. I can't wait until the January resolutionists give up and leave the gym because as it stands, it's far too crowded. However, I believe that it won't really get better until February is over since the winter Olympics are coming up, and something about the Olympics always makes the gym fill up.

I have no outfit posts because I've been wearing the same pair of jeans and Nikes every day with varying t-shirts and hoodies. The weather is awful here, and my Nikes are my only shoes I can get away with in four inches of snow.

P.S.

Isn't this a perfect bag for spring? I need something...a bit more grown up than my Forever 21 bag I've been carrying around.

Happy New Year!

Today is my one year anniversary with my boyfriend! Holler!

And we actually still like each other, I can hardly believe it.

Just making a quick update during the half time of the Rose Bowl (oops, I accidentally typed Bowel haha). Anyhow, I'm hoping that 2010 will be better for my family and me than last year was. We lost our Grandma, our dog, and, as of yesterday, our Grandpa as well :(

I'll be updating more once I'm back at school and in the swing of things.

P.S. Isn't this the perfect dress for a Barbie party? I don't know why, but I like to think of themes for parties that I will probably never have. Right now I'm excited about Barbie parties and Nationality Day parties.
